Rob Laurie the man in this photo is a bodyboarder of the highest quality. He boosts bigger than anyone hitting sections or taking the waves the long blonde hair, skinny jean, tight t-shirt wearing folks don't. If your on the Gold Coast having a surf and you see someone flying higher than you've even seen before chances are it will be Rob, don't be sky to say hello as he a friendly guy who likes a good laugh. One thing I know for sure is he deserves a lot more from the industry as he lets his surfing do the talking unlike some.

I've probably mentioned this on an older post (I cant be bothered to check or remember if i did) so here goes again. Last year yes 2009 I put down the still camera and picked up a video camera for the first time to help out good friend Matt Lackey with his dropknee video THE LACKEY PROJECT, apart from me there have been many other videographers involved in the project to get the best footage and as many possible angles as possible. Well the time has come after almost 2 years of filming the dvd is all finished and in a very special callaboration with Riptide magazine it is going to be released on the front cover of there next issue, due to hit the shelfs early february. Here is a photo of Matt I took that riptide have used to promote the dvd in there latest issue. Im Stoked with how its turned out.

Amazing, what more can i say about this cover of the latest Riptide shot by Trent Mitchell. I can appreciate the skills and knowledge that have gone into this cover and the feature that will grace the pages inside, for more of Trent's work Click Here. Finally after 6 months of waiting the Gold Coast was greeted with some nice waves, and ill probably have to say some of the best Dbah in 2 years. When I rocked up to the beach there were already 8 photographers and counting, most were shooting with there longer lenses so instead of joining the circus I shot with a smaller which gives a bit more feel to whats going on. Here are a few shots from monday and tuesday this week, there not the best ones thou as im still waiting for some feedback from the mags on some others shots. Hope you like.

This Time Next Year We'll Be Millionaires

Last week I checked the charts and saw a nice east swell hitting south coast NSW, me and some friends (Alex Wake and Sean Daniels) thought we'd do a road trip and get some waves and photo's for ThreeSixty mag back in the UK. The swell didn't really eventuate so was a pretty disappointing trip on the wave front, but over the 3000ks cover in 5 days it bought some fun times in the way of random songs, inventing things to make us millionaires and sharing life experiences that should of probably been kept quite. Here are a few pics from the way.

I feel its one of the best shots i've taken in the years i've been shooting, but sadly I feel it was never shown to its true potential as it was shot on 35mm slide film during the digital revolution.

Back in august I had the pleasure of meeting Alex Manning, I was put on to him by a friend from England. As the waves rolled in and the shutter took a beating from the action I contacted Rob Barber editor of Threesixty magazine over in the UK. Turns out I had enough shots to bag Alex his first profile in the mag, after years of surfing out of the limelight Alex has finally started to come to life and land himself a profile and a tidy double in the latest issue of 71mag. It couldn't of happened to a nicer guy well deserved and not to be underestimated!.

And so another day passes without the slightest hint of a decent wave, this must have been going on now for almost 2 months. A few nights ago I heard a rumble in the distance so jumped on the net to check out there BOM radar and boom it was showing a storm up around surfers area. I was bored shitless and it was getting late so I deceided to dust off the camera and walk to Kirra beach just at the end of the road. These are a few shots i captured.

Well the swell has been up all week and looking good for next week too. Sorry I have not got much to show but as you may be able to tell from the heading all my gear is out to the editors waiting for a response to see if they want to use it, here's a shot of Matt thats pretty soft so i can use it to give an idea what the waves have been like. The 2 bird shots are me waiting for sets to roll in its not all iphones while I wait ya know.

The shot below is just a leftover I had on one of my cards, the reason I have uploaded this shot is to share with you the quality of the Canon 50mm f/1.8. This photo has come straight from a RAW file no correction at all, its sharp and the colours are good anyone who shoots photo's should have one of these in there bag at anytime as the quality you get for what they cost is unreal.

Yesterday I shot surf photos for the very first time with my new lens, Im so happy with it as for the last 4 years I had nothing but bad luck with the quality of my images. Here are just a few scrap shots of Mick Fanning who was having a bash while I was shooting a certain bodyboarder, note in the last photo he is riding a board with no sponsors on it at all so dunno what the go is there !?!. Keep your eyes peeled on those glossy boog magazines over the next few months for some gold from this very session .

Rally Australia

So today I got up super early to check the WRC pits out with my good friend Alex Ormerod before checking the surf. While we were there the weather took a turn for the worst and even thou it was raging offshore and waves were pumping we decided F#&k it lets do something different and try and hunt down a rally stage that has no spectater areas hence we will not have to pay. To cut along story short Alex came up with the bright Idea of looking on the RTA website to see what roads would be closed today out where the stages were being held on the map, after finding the road name we punched it in a westerly direction as if we were in the rally ourselfs all of a sudden the tramac turned to gravel and were like can this be it !?! We rounded a corner and saw a few people on the side of this road we asked what they were doing and we get the reply waiting for the rally. BINGO! After many hours wait and being eaten by leaches while trying to suss out different angles to shoot from and then being told by the marshalls i would not be aloud this is what i came up with.

Ok this is completely off the subject of photography but everyone loves a good pair of daps, I'd just like to share with you the mighty Supre Skytop that I myself have been wearing ever since they hit the shelfs a few years back. There a bit out there but thats what you get when you ask Chad Muska (skateboarding great and artist) to design his own signature shoe. Below is just a sample of what they have going on so if you like them don't buy them as you'll just be copying me HA, and if your bigger than a size 11 they won't fit plus they take a fair dent out of the funds.

For those of you who know who Paul Roach is theres no need to explain but for you who don't he is the best dropknee rider ever! Roach recently came to Australia for 6 days to promote his sponsor and spend some quailty time riding on the knee, he was lucky enough to score 3 foot perfect left wegdes over at Fingal. I myself documented this from behind the lens of a video camera for a section on the upcoming Matt Lackey DVD due out at the end of the year, but can not show you any frame grabs you'll just have to wait to watch the movie. After filming for a few hours the battery died and i caught a few waves with the old still camera so here's just 2 shots of the man him self doing what he does best. Enjoy!
